Cortejo Afro is a bloco afro founded by ex-Olodum artistic director Alberto Pitta in 1997. Their motto is "Elegantamente Sofisticado" (Elegantly Sophisticated), and they are part of an artsy crowd stretching as far afield as New York City. Don't hold this against them though! Their approach works...good music...drama...visuals...lots of interesting guest musicians...all founded in a true and solid Bahian ethos.
