Germano Cruz is leader of Ijexá da Bahia, a roots organization devoted to this musical style which involved taking one of the principal rhythms of candomblé out of the terreiros and putting it on the streets.

Before putting his own ijexá group together it was Germano who sang for the Filhos de Gandhy during Carnival.
