Born in 1968, Joatan Nascimento, originally from the Brazilian state of Alagoas and now living in Bahia, is one of the most widely hailed trumpeters of his generation.

Since 1989 he's been a member of the Orquestra Sinfônica da Bahia, where he studied with masters Isaac Karabchevsk, Roberto Duarte, and Julio Medaglia, among others. He's recorded with Caetano Veloso, Carlinhos Brown, Banda Eva, Fred Dantas, Banda Cheiro de Amor, and Ivete Sangalo. In 1994 he played with Tito Puente at Fest'in Bahia and  since 1995 he's been playing with Daniela Mercury.

His own CD (on the Maianga label) is entitled "Eu Choro Assim" (2002).
